Spiderman Flag Mod Removed by Nexus Mods, But Why?

Spiderman Remastered recently launched for the PC. The excellent interpretation of Spiderman is the result of the hard work of the team over at Insomniac Games, allowing players to swiftly and fluidly traverse the cityscapes of New York City and bring crime to a halt. The new spidey game also attracted a wide number of modders to release some incredible mods for the PC release, and it’s safe to say that these mods have improved the overall experience for Spiderman Remastered on the PC. But some mods have been a bit controversial with the release of a mod that removes pride flags from the game. An individual took to Nexus Mods, offended by the game’s rendition of New York City, and removed the pride flags found throughout the cityscape of the city as well as the absolute plethora of American flags.  The mod basically removed pride flags and replaced them with stars and stripes. It was uploaded to Nexus Mods by an account named “Mike Hawk” which is obviously a sock puppet account. Nexus Mods quickly initiated the ban hammer and made a statement on their blog post, addressing the matter. Nexus Mods is by far the most popular and centralized mod database online. It has a clean look to it and features a decent community. The website features all the functionality a PC gamer needs and looks for. Nexus Mods, upon discovering the mod, swiftly removed the post and banned the modders sockpuppet account as well as their main account. This, indeed, led to some community drama as it’s a hot potato of a matter. Some claimed that someone innocent had been punished, and others claimed that someone guilty was brought to justice by the website. The people working over at Nexus Mods decided that enough is enough when it comes to touchy matters like this. While some bear a stigma on the matter, others want websites to take a diverse and inclusive approach, and that is what Nexus Mods exactly did. The team over at Nexus Mods clearly addressed what was going on in a new blog post and set some clear community guidelines for future posts and matters of similar nature. Nexus Mods saw through the whole mod post and presented a compelling argument. The user did, in fact, use a sockpuppet account as a means to troll the online community, and they knew that it wouldn’t be allowed. If this was a legitimate mod, the user would have otherwise used their main account, for that matter. The website claimed that they wouldn’t have to go through drastic measures if the user owned up to their controversial mod and posted it on their main account initially. Extreme measures would have been taken if they hypothetically uploaded the mod on their supposed main account, and the ban hammer would have been enforced. If there was any doubt about the intentions of the modder, they were simply thrown out the door due to the account being a sockpuppet one, according to Nexus Mods. Nexus Mods also figured out the main account of the user and swiftly banned both of the user’s accounts. As for future mods, Nexus mods state that any mod that tries to replace the pride flag with deliberate intent to disrupt inclusivity and diversity on the platform will be subjected to strict action by the website. Similar methods will be adopted for users who try to troll the community or other users just to get a rise out of them. Nexus Mods promises to do a better job at moderating the website, and this is a promise that they intend to keep with their actions and decisions. It’s evident that Nexus Mods is not trying to set itself up as an authority on what modders can post or not, but being a private company, for that matter, they can choose what content it wants to host and what it wants to throw out of the window. It’s not the first time Nexus Mods has removed content. The site has previously taken similar routes for controversial content quietly, but today’s blog was published to draw a line in the sand to send the message that modders should know not to cross specific lines. The website stated that they don’t intend to argue with modders or users as the line has been drawn clearly with their blog post, and the stance is apparent. Nexus Mods has also encouraged users to report if they find anything that goes against their privacy policy instead of taking justice into their own hands. Nexus Mods has clearly declared that they are the adjudicators for what is hosted on the site, and that goes for anyone on the site. “If this policy upsets you, if we’ve broken some moral code of conduct as a business that you can’t accept, then please, delete your account(opens in new tab) (bottom option) and move on, as we will.” The modder who tried to troll the community and get a rise out of them certainly got a rise out of not only users but Nexus Mods as well, so they succeeded at that. But with their accounts being banned and their IP being restricted as well, they have plenty of time to reflect on their actions. Maybe, they should go outside and touch some grass, as the kids say and Mike Hawk certainly has the time to do so. It would be safe to say that the majority of the mods that the community has been pumping out have been pretty outstanding and fun to play, though it’s pretty early in the lifespan of mods for Spiderman Remastered for PC, as we’ve only gotten our hands on some new character models and reshades for now.

Mods Worth Checking Out!

We got to try our hands at mods like the Stan Lee character mod where Spiderman is replaced by the now deceased franchise creator Stan Lee, a no HUD mod to truly immersive yourself in Spiderman without any UI and the Symbiote Black Suit Mod. The most promising tool we’ve gotten on our hands so far is a modding tool uploaded by prolific jedijosh920 that makes the whole modding process for Spiderman for PC all the more easier and accessible for modders and users alike.   And that’s pretty much it for the spiderman pride flag mod matter. What do you think of this whole scenario? Let us know in the comments below. We upload daily on Appuals, so stay tuned for more. Till then, see you later and goodbye!
