Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be manfucatured on TSMC’s cutting-edge 4nm process node, similar to the 8+ Gen 1. As per Ice universe, the new SoC will ship with a 1+2+2+3 configuration. Basically, the design is as follows; 1x Cortex-X3 core at 3.2GHz + 2x Cortex-A715 cores at 2.8GHz + 2x Cortex-A710 cores running at 2.8GHz + 3x Cortex-A510 cores running at 2.0GHz.

A direct apples to apples comparison has not been given. Therefore, we’ll take the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 as the competitor.
The 8 Gen 1 Disaster
Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 back in 2021, built on Samsung’s 4nm node. This came with its own set of problems. Samsung’s silicon was notorious for poor thermals, effectively throttling the 8 Gen 1. This led to sub-par performance even when Qualcomm had a relatively good design. Therefore, a new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was revealed fabricated on TSMC’s 4nm node. This CPU is such a massive leap, that it outperforms even Apple’s A15 Bionic (iPhone 13 Pro Max) in gaming tests. We expect the 8 Gen 2 to offer even better performance and improved thermals.
Release Date
While this CPU has not been officially announced by Qualcomm yet, we expect it to be unveiled during their Qualcomm Summit event. The event may showcase the performance uplifts from generation to generation. Similarly, Motorola may launch their next phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 soon. We here at Appuals will keep you up to date if any more information surfaces.
