Assassin’s Creed Mirage Finally Announced at Ubisoft Forward!
The latest iteration of the franchise is coming to Baghdad and will feature the return of the Basim to the title. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to feature a traditional take on the formula of the franchise in contrast to modern Assassin’s Creed games that featured RPG elements. The first footage of the game has finally come out at the Ubisoft Forward event on September 10, today. This is months after the game went viral on the internet with supposed leaks and rumors. It’s expected that more information will be brought to light in the months proceeding with the official launch of the title. We get to see a supercut of Basim’s life before he joins the order of the Assassin’s. He’s a pretty thief on the streets of Baghdad and later he rises through the ranks as he journeys to become a Master Assassin as he takes out corrupt enemies of the order. It’s pretty evident that this is a prequel to the events of Valhalla, breaking down Basim’s life and the deeper meaning behind the character as a whole. What we got to observe was that the main voiceover character in the trailer is the voice of Shoreh Aghdasloo, from the Expanse, Destiny, and Mass Effect. She’ll be playing the role of the character, Roshan who’ll serve as Basim’s mentor and initiator into the Assassin community. Roshan is intended to be Persian, as is Aghdashloo. The trailer features Basim engaging in fights, and performing parkour maneuvres and the trailer ends with Basim removing his finger to complete his initiation as one of the Assassins. Mirage certainly holds a lot of hope for those that wanted a stealth-focused entry into the series once again. Many players and members of the community have stated that they haven’t had a proper Assassin’s Creed experience for years now.
While we didn’t get any gameplay for the game sadly. With a CGI trailer, it appears that Basim is on the run and being hunted down by what appear to be members of the Brotherhood in Baghdad. There are multiple people gunning down for Basim’s head and we’re excited to see what the game’s story entails for us when the game finally comes out. Basim was first introduced back in Valhalla and acted as a mentor of sorts for the protagonist of the game, Eivor. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will focus in on Basim and act as his coming-of-age story where he’ll learn the ways of the Assassin under his mentor Rashan who played the Shoreh Aghdashloo in the Expanse. Currently, Ubisoft Bordeaux is the leading development team behind Assassin’s Creed Mirage and it’s slated to come out on the PlayStation 4, PS5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X. It was in the Ubisoft Forward Event that the developer reiterated that the game will be taking the franchise back to its root not only physically but story-wise as well. Although Baghdad is a new location, set around 850 kilometers away from the original Assassin’s Creed location, the game is still returning to the Middle East with a more linear, stealth-based action packed parkour traversal system. Mirage will be set across four different districts within the city of Baghdad including the Round City and Karkh set in the city’s golden age of 861. Players will also get to visit the district of Alamut, the Assassin fortress that is still under construction within the timeline of Mirage. What Ubisoft still didn’t get around to addressing was anything related to the fact that Basim is the reincarnation of the Norse God Loki who was able to restore his body and wake up in the year 2020 rocking a killer wolf T-shirt. When it comes down to gameplay, Ubisoft stated that Basim’s eagle will play a pivotal role in stealth-based navigation and how the player will approach numerous scenarios. The Assassin will also be granted the ability to slow down time in order to nail down numerous targets for rapid-fire assassinations. Players will also get to enjoy abilities like the pole vault to maneuver wide gaps. To be specific, Basim’s pace is a lot more faster than what we’re used to, due to his agile build and it supports the core gameplay of sneaking in for a stealth kill and navigating out of the situation before even getting caught. The company stated that the game is a tribute to the original Assassin’s Creed games but they also explained that there’s going to be a little bit of every Assassin’s Creed game in Mirage. Ubisoft has decided to bring back many fan-favorite features from previous iterations of the franchise and it appears that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will undoubtedly return to the roots that made Assassin’s Creed what it is today. Players will get to explore a vibrant and dense city set in Baghdad where they’ll enjoy a fresh take on the classic franchise as Basim journey’s his way to become a Master Assassin. Ubisoft has focused on the animation movements, fluidity, and parkour mechanics of the game this time around. The RPG trilogy featured a much more simplified parkour system but Assassin’s Creed Mirage is expected to be a step up in terms of its traversal system. With the game expected to return to a more classic formula, stealth will once again play a pivotal role in Basim’s exploration across Baghdad. Stealth was indeed one of the most crucial elements of the game that set the stepping stones for the Assassin’s Creed franchise and fans have been waiting for a much more stealthy Assassin’s Creed game. Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage hopes to revamp the stealth system with the game making full use of the hidden blades. The developer is also working on several other titles. We got a look at five new Assassin’s Creed games in development and today’s Ubisoft Forward event has just revealed a small tidbit of what’s coming next. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is coming to Windows PC vis Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PS4, and PS5 later in 2023. The game will release with a price tag of 49.99 dollars and will also feature a deluxe edition for 59.99 dollars which will feature the Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves DLC that was leaked earlier in the week. For those looking for a treat, a Collectors Edition will also be available for a whopping price tag of 149.99 dollars that will feature a bunch of goodies in the mix along with the game.
